About Dr. Kelvin Afra

The Story
Dr. Kelvin Afra is a Canadian board-certified Prosthodontist dedicated to helping patients restore confidence, comfort, and quality of life through advanced implant, reconstructive, and esthetic dentistry.
Trained at leading institutions in Canada, Switzerland, and Germany, he combines the precision traditionally associated with European dentistry with the comprehensive, patient-centred philosophy of North American care. His clinical focus includes dental implants, smile makeover, full-mouth reconstruction, veneers, crowns, implant-supported dentures, and complex restorative treatment.
A defining chapter of his career was his training and research at the University of Bern in Switzerland, alongside internationally respected pioneers including Professors U. Belser, D. Buser, and U. Brägger. Through the prestigious ITI Fellowship and his longstanding affiliation with the Department of Reconstructive Dentistry and Gerodontology (RekGero), he trained within what many consider the "cathedral of implant dentistry", a centre that has helped shape modern implant treatment around the world. Since 2016, he has remained affiliated with the University of Bern as an Affiliate Scientist member, currently under the leadership of Prof. Martin Schimmel.
His international perspective has been further enriched through academic collaborations across Europe and Asia. In 2023, he served as a Visiting Professor at Yonsei University Dental Hospital in Seoul, collaborating on digital dentistry, advanced biomaterials, and contemporary restorative workflows. That same year, he was also invited to the University of Zurich, where he contributed to the development of innovative implant-supported rehabilitation concepts, such as the T-bridge, alongside Prof. P. R. Schmidlin.
While his research, teaching, and international collaborations have taken him around the world, Dr. Afra's philosophy remains simple: dentistry is ultimately about people.
